Forgotten Chains: The Hidden History of Irish Slavery in America

eBook Description for The Forgotten Chains: The Hidden History of Irish Slavery in America

Uncover the shocking truth buried beneath centuries of silence in The Forgotten Chains: The Hidden History of Irish Slavery in America, a gripping historical exposé by a 55-year-old Irish-American author who spent years poring over forgotten archives. This meticulously researched narrative rips away the veil of "indentured servitude" to reveal the brutal reality of tens of thousands of Irish men, women, and children forcibly shipped to 17th-century American and Caribbean plantations. From Cromwell's merciless conquests to the blood-soaked fields of Barbados, discover how Irish captives-sold for pennies, whipped raw, and worked to death-were erased from history by a legal fiction that promised freedom but often delivered chains.

Through vivid accounts drawn from ship manifests, colonial laws, and smuggled letters, The Forgotten Chains traces the harrowing journeys of figures like Mary O'Donnell, whose "insolence" cost her years of bondage, and the 120 children of the John and Sara, auctioned for boots and tobacco. It exposes the stark contrast between Irish forced labor and African chattel slavery, as codified in Virginia's 1661 Slave Codes, while dismantling the modern "Irish slaves" myth that distorts both histories to derail today's reparations debates.

Part history, part reckoning, this eBook challenges readers to confront the colonial sins that built America and their echoes in 2025's racial and economic divides. Perfect for fans of The 1619 Project and readers of Irish-American heritage, African-American history, or colonial studies, The Forgotten Chains is a call to break the silence, honor the erased, and forge a path to justice.
