Legend of Catman

'The Legend of Catman' by Dr. Darryl Owens takes place in East Baltimore, where a close-knit group of teenagers called the East Side Crew spend their days playing basketball, listening to music, and dreaming of a life beyond their surroundings. Kip, Little Man, Big Man, Stank, and their friends share a bond built on competition, loyalty, and the daily realities of their neighborhood. As summer ends and school starts, their world revolves around friendship, family tensions, and plans for the future, from athletic goals to hopes of leaving the streets behind. But beyond the laughter on the Alameda and the rhythm of block parties, a darker presence watches from the woods that border their community. Rumors spread as children begin to go missing, and fear slowly takes hold of the same streets the boys walk every day. The contrast between lively street life and the silence of the forest becomes clearer each week, forcing the community to face an unseen threat. At its heart, 'The Legend of Catman' is a story of young people tested by danger, of families sticking together under pressure, and of a neighborhood determined to protect its own. Through suspense and realism, Dr. Darryl Owens tells a powerful story about courage, loss, and the fight to restore safety in a place called home.
