Autism on a Shoestring Budget is the story of the author's autism journey, filled with examples of her personal experiences while caring for her autistic grandson. It presents a wealth of strategies and suggested interventions that can be implemented at little to no cost by parents, caregivers, and teachers to help their autistic child or student--even when on a shoestring budget.
In 2012, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the US reported the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as an estimated 1 in 88 children. Just 12 years later, the estimates have risen to 1 in 36, with ASD four times as prevalent in boys as in girls. All these children need intervention and support--and the earlier the better.
