It is the year 2068.

Willow Krist, amidst a dystopian world of worsening climate disaster and brutal autocracy, discovers the truth about an international scandal involving her grandfather: how, with the aid of a mysterious document, he kept the world from ending.

Reverting to 2026, William Krist, a self-absorbed expatriate recently relocated to southern Argentina, sits paralyzed after being a virtual witness to worldwide nuclear war. Mammoth fires fed by tornadic winds and creeping radioactive contamination work to complete the extinction initiated by nuclear blast. Reflecting on the role he and his company played in optimizing US nuclear weapons, Krist is overcome by guilt.

Amidst his isolation, Krist rediscovers The Orange Book, an arcane text that provides him with the knowledge to influence an earlier version of himself. Krist plans to utilize this ability to forestall the planet's demise, targeting his earlier teenage existence to set in motion a series of individual and global changes.
