On young Sherry's first day of school, she comes home bursting with excitement, eager to tell her mother about the new friend she's made-a very special friend. She explains how this new classmate didn't seem happy to be at school and how she took it upon herself to befriend her. Each day that week, Sherry returns with a new story about Jennifer, the Special One. She describes how Jennifer spent the first few days crying and acting out, but little by little, she began to accept the friendship Sherry so kindly offered. Before long, the two become inseparable at school. Eventually, Sherry's mother visits the school to meet the teacher. It quickly becomes clear why Sherry, with her generous and caring heart, was drawn to Jennifer-and why Jennifer is, in her own way, such a truly special little girl.
