Ọkunrin (A Man)

Ọkunrin (A Man), the second novel in AJ Sam's A Journey Far series, is a powerful and immersive exploration of the American Civil War era - through ordinary people caught in this transformative period.

Three days after the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter, the story follows James and his friend Bobby as they navigate the shifting landscape of a "divided" United States of America to discover their place as men.

AJ Sam skillfully weaves the varied tensions between the industrial North and agricultural South into the lives of his characters, making history feel personal and current. His use of period literature, music, and news headlines deepens the reader's connection to the era, enriches the historical context without overwhelming the narrative.

Beyond its historical scope, Ọkunrin resonates deeply with today's readers. The parallels between 1860s America and the sociopolitical divisions of the 21st century gives the novel a sense of urgency and relevance. Through rigorous research and astute depictions, AJ Sam offers a compelling exposition - survival by tenacity; a powerful reflection on how the past echoes into the present.

Ọkunrin (A Man). It's a story of relationships, discovery, and victory. It's a story of faith, hope, and love. It's - a story of America.
