Kol Mendona, one of the last humans on the magical continent of Alon, is desperate to escape his dying underground compound, but outside the meager safety of those confining walls awaits certain death. But magic and the arrival of a horned, silver-eyed witch, Alessi prove survival in the wastes above is possible.

When trouble finds the pair in the form of three shapeshifting dragons, Kol is faced with a choice-stay behind and die for sure, or go with Alessi and only probably die. As they journey together through the deadly wastes, an unexpected bond forms between them - one fueled by passion and dangerous magic.
