Dani and His Amazing Paintbrush: Dani's Daring Daydream

Dani is a creative young boy who loves to express himself through art! When other kids tease his colorful shoes at school, his friend sticks up for him. But Dani didn't like how it felt to be teased. He is not sure he wants to be different anymore.

With help from his teacher, his incredible imagination, and support from his friend, Dani and all his classmates learn an important lesson about art, expression, and creativity. "If you choose to be bold, people who see you will follow!"

Written by Dr. Daniela Fifi, a graduate of Teachers College at Columbia University, the story features lessons about friendship, individuality, courage, and creativity. Dani and His Amazing Paintbrush is inspired by the work of Caribbean artist Geoffrey Holder and is dedicated to African, Caribbean, African-American, and Black artists globally. It invites children to learn about artists underrepresented in museums and schools. Only through learning about these artists and their visual stories can we better understand ourselves as people.

Gifted illustrator Nathalia Milagros Rivera Pérez brings the story to life through her artwork in a tribute to accepting oneself, respecting others, and being a young artist.
