It's 1963, and Cal Buchanan has resigned himself to one more summer stuck in his parents' high-society beach community before he graduates from Harvard and steps into the life that has been planned for him. He'll be working at his father's company and marrying a longtime family friend who is the perfect wife for a wealthy society executive. It's not the life he'd choose for himself, but he knows he can't have what he truly wants.

He must keep an important part of his identity a secret from everyone.

That is, until he meets Jack Francis, an up-and-coming Hollywood heartthrob who is vacationing at the beach mansion next door. Jack is unlike anyone Cal has ever met: free-spirited, impulsive, and unashamed of his desires. As Cal grows closer to Jack and their friendship turns into a secret summer fling, Cal begins to wonder: does he have more choices than he thought, and does he have the courage to make them?
